Karl Lagerfeld gave us all a very intimate look into the world of Chanel today with his presentation for the Couture Fall 2016 collection. The acclaimed designer took over the Grand Palais in Paris to unveil his latest runway show, in a much less elaborate fashion than we’ve come to expect of such events. This time around, Karl gave an inside look into his atelier where models were instructed to walk right through the sewing room, while 78 seamstresses continued to stretch, cut and iron new garments.

While this made for an exciting stage to onlookers, it was even more of a rarity for the men and women who work tirelessly for the design house and never get to see their creations in the context of a fashion show.

“People like the idea that they could see the show for once,” Lagerfeld commented during an interview. “Plus, I thought it was a modern idea that they should participate, so that people pay attention to them because the craftsmanship is so unbelievable. I think they should be shown, too.”
