Choosing to work with a Personal Stylist can be one of the most rewarding decisions you make this year, both for your sense of style and for your wallet. A common misconception we hear all too often is that personal shoppers tend to push their own fashion agenda and preferences, leaving clients to purchase clothing they otherwise never would have, and spend money on items that go unworn.

At MiKADO, our first priority has always been for our clients to feel amazing in what they’re putting on and at home with the fashion decisions we’re assisting them in. After all, they’re the ones who will be wearing the clothing day in and day out, and should for that very reason be entirely comfortable in what they’re wearing. This often comes down to teaching clients how to work with the items already in their closets, showing them new ways to mix and match and creating fresh outfit combinations they may never have otherwise thought of.

Knowing how to mix and match is one of the most useful styling tools at your disposal as it allows you to optimize what you already own and get the greatest return on investment from the pieces you’ve previously spent money on.

The challenge for many people in successfully pulling this off however, is that they’ve worn the clothing in their closets so many times that it becomes difficult to see the individual pieces in a new light. After wearing a certain button down shirt to the office with great frequency for example, the idea that this same top could also double as a weekend essential with jeans is almost impossible to see. Once we allocate an item into a certain setting or repeatedly pair it together as a specific look, it becomes challenging for us to envision it in a new way. Thus arises the problem many of us think we’re faced with: “I have nothing to wear in my closet”.

Enter the Personal Stylist! What we aim to achieve for our clients is a well-rounded wardrobe comprised of the pieces they already own, while shopping for additional items to supplement the gaps. We teach our clients how to mix and match what they currently own by photographing each individual item in their existing wardrobe and creating various outfit combinations with these images so they can visually comprehend new ways to pair clothing together. We call this our Look Book and of all the services we offer, this is by far the all-time favorite. We consistently receive reactions like, “I can wear that together?’, or ‘I never would’ve thought of this as an outfit but now I’m not sure why I didn’t ‘.

Humans beings are creatures of habit and often all it takes is a fresh set of eyes to see how to effectively utilize what you already own – especially if those are expertly trained fashion-eyes.

Working with a Personal Stylist doesn’t have to mean spending a lot of money on new clothing and an overwhelming fear of being pushed into things you’re not comfortable with. If you’re interested in getting more out of what you currently own and understanding how to mix and match to create new looks, send us an email. We’d love to pass on the knowledge, set you up with a personalized Look Book and take the stress out of getting dressed every day.
