Paris Couture Week reached new heights today with the showing of Valentino. The Fall 2016 collection paid homage to William Shakespeare and marked the 400 year anniversary since his death. Grand Elizabethan prominence carried throughout each look that came down the runway, celebrating the close relationship between theatre and fashion.

While the couture collection was an undeniable masterpiece, most of the chatter surrounding Valentino focused on whether this would be Maria Grazia Chiuri’s swan song for the brand. Along with her counter part, Pierpaolo Piccioli, the two have served as Creative Director’s for the design house since 2007. Ever-intense rumors in the past few months however, have suggested that Chiuri is in place to succeed Raf Simons at Dior. An announcement that LVMH is is expected to announce at any moment.

All the elements of classic Renaissance were showcased today, from ruffled sleeves to fur petticoats and bodices, demonstrating just how well Valentino is at capturing this time period through modern day romance.
